The Ministry of Communication and Technology (MoICT) has commenced collaboration with universities and other tertiary institutions of learning to deliver Ajira Digital Training to students. The collaboration aims to have 120,000 citizens trained about online work by the end of the current financial year. Currently knowledge is the most valuable outsourced commodity and this makes Ajira very important to universities. Among the long term outcomes of the project is to create Business Processes Outsourcing (BPO) Centres in the Universities. Kenyatta University is ready for this, with the Chandaria Business Innovation and Incubation Centre providing a strong foundation for this strategy. The Ajira Digital training for KU students was done from Monday 3 rd – 7 th December 2018. On 7 th December 2018, immediately after the training, the first cohort of KU students joined the Ajira Digital Club KU Chapter, whose primary mandate is mentorship of other students and new online workers. The Club is expected to be part of the larger Ajira Digital schedule for clubs leaders’ training annually in form of conferences that provides a forum for further mentorship under the auspices of Ajira Digital Programme in MoICT. It is expected that if all goes as planned, the Club will officially be launched by the Cabinet Secretary (CS), MoICT early 2019, mostly likely late in the month of January or February.
